How To Convert Your FBA Listing to FBM on Amazon Germany (Step-by-Step)

If you’ve ever felt stuck with an FBA listing that needed more flexibility, you’re not alone. Whether it’s due to low stock at Amazon’s fulfillment centers, shifting strategies, or just wanting more control, converting to FBM (Fulfilled by Merchant) can be a smart move.

As someone who’s been selling on Amazon Germany for close to four years, I’ve run into this scenario more times than I can count. In this guide, I’ll show you the two easiest ways to convert your FBA listing into an FBM listing—without the guesswork. Let’s dive in.

FBA vs FBM: What’s the Real Difference?

Before we get technical, here’s a quick refresher:

  • FBA (Fulfilled by Amazon): Amazon stores your inventory and handles shipping and customer service.
  • FBM (Fulfilled by Merchant): You store, pack, and ship the item yourself.

Switching from FBA to FBM means you’ll have to manage your own fulfillment—but it also means you’ll have more pricing control, more flexibility during stockouts, and often a faster time-to-market for small batches.

Method 1: Add FBM as Another Listing (Keep Both Listings Active)

This is my go-to method. Instead of completely switching your listing to FBM, you can create a second listing under a different condition. That way, you have both FBA and FBM listings running at the same time.

Here’s how:

  1. Go to Seller Central: Log in to your Amazon Germany Seller Central.
  2. Navigate to Inventory > Manage All Inventory
  3. Find your FBA listing.
  4. Click the three dots on the right side of the listing.
  5. Select “Add another condition”
  6. Fill in the details:
    • Quantity: For example, 10 units.
    • Price: You can enter your FBM price here.
    • Condition: Choose “New”
    • Fulfillment: Select “I will ship this item myself” (this makes it an FBM listing)
  7. Scroll down and click Save and Finish

Once submitted, give it 15 to 30 minutes for Amazon to process. The new FBM listing will appear separately in your inventory list.

Pro Tip: You can adjust the FBM listing’s price and quantity independently. If you run out of stock or want to pause the listing, just set the quantity to zero.

Method 2: Fully Convert the FBA Listing to FBM

If you don’t want both listings and just want to completely switch your FBA listing to FBM, here’s what you do:

  1. Go to Manage All Inventory
  2. Tick the checkbox beside the FBA listing you want to convert.
  3. Scroll down to the “Select Group Action” menu
  4. Choose “Change to Fulfilled by Merchant”
  5. Confirm the switch by clicking Done

Once done, Amazon will start processing the change. After a short while, your FBA listing will become an FBM listing. You’ll now have full control over pricing, shipping, and inventory updates.

Important: Only do this if you’re sure you don’t want the FBA version anymore. This change is not easily reversible.

What If You See “Missing Offer” Warnings?

Sometimes after you create or convert a listing, you’ll see a “Missing Offer” notification. Don’t panic. That’s just Amazon doing its thing in the background.

It means Amazon hasn’t fully activated the listing yet. Just give it 15–30 minutes. Once the backend processes finish, the listing will appear as “Active”, and you’ll be able to manage it like any other.

Cleaning Up: How To Remove an FBM Listing

Let’s say you added an FBM listing just for testing purposes and now want to remove it. Simple:

  1. Tick the checkbox next to the FBM listing.
  2. Go to Select Group Action.
  3. Choose Delete Listing.
  4. Amazon will process the deletion within 15 minutes.

This will stop the listing from appearing on the Amazon.de front end, even though it may still show in your backend for historical reference.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can I switch back from FBM to FBA later?

Yes. You can always change fulfillment methods. Just go to your FBM listing, select “Change to Fulfilled by Amazon,” and follow the FBA setup process again.

2. What happens to my reviews when I add another condition?

Your reviews stay intact. Both FBA and FBM listings under the same ASIN share the same review pool, so you won’t lose credibility.

3. Why would I use both listings at once?

Running both gives you backup. If Amazon runs out of FBA stock, your FBM listing can still generate sales. It’s also useful for testing new fulfillment strategies or managing costs.

Ready to Take Control of Your Listings?

Switching from FBA to FBM isn’t complicated—but understanding the right method can save you a lot of confusion. Whether you want more control, flexibility, or just a reliable backup option, adding FBM listings can give your Amazon Germany store a serious edge.
